About
Story first.

Barry Zhang is a composer and arranger currently based in Japan, writing music for video games, animation, and other visual media. Specializing in orchestral and electronic hybrid music, he is passionate about using music to tell deeply resonant stories.
Barry’s musical journey began in high school through his fascination with electric guitar and metal music. After teaching himself to play the guitar, he formed a band with friends and began exploring music through performance and songwriting. Over time, his interests expanded beyond the guitar as he became increasingly drawn to music production and composition.
Although he did not study music as an undergraduate, his background in Applied Mathematics at the University of California, Santa Barbara shaped the way he approaches music. The analytical thinking and problem-solving skills he developed there became a foundation for his understanding of musical structure, audio technology, and the technical tools involved in modern music production.
Barry later pursued his professional musical training at Berklee College of Music’s Valencia campus in Spain, where he earned a Master’s degree in Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Games. During his studies, he developed his skills in composition, orchestration, and conducting while collaborating with producers and musicians from a wide range of cultural and creative backgrounds.
Drawing on his international education and trilingual background, Barry continues to build connections and collaborate with producers and musicians across Asia, Europe, North America, and beyond.
